The Cancer Society of the Bahamas held its 16th Love Tree Lighting ceremony in November at the Mall at Marathon. The 40 ft tall LoveTree continues to be one of the main fundraisers for the Society and is also a symbol of hope as it shines prominently throughout the Christmas Season at the busy Mall junction.

Persons who send donations in response to the Cancer Society Appeal Letter assist in lighting the tree in honour of, or in memory of a loved one and this gesture also helps to light up the season. The lists of all donations received are on display on the Love Stand inside the Mall and persons send donations right through into the New Year. "These donations help to keep the Society running", stated Treasurer, Susan Roberts, "and we truly appreciate the unwavering support of the Bahamian public."

Over the years various children with cancer have turned on the switch to light the tree and the tree lighting ceremony attracts an excited public who come out to sing carols and listen to choirs and Christmas messages from various pastors. The Love Tree Lighting truly ushers in the Christmas Season!
