Mark Knowles unveils the Room donated in his honour at the Cancer Society of the Bahamas' Cancer Caring Centre in Centreville.

International Tennis Celebrity Mark Knowles was in town recently for his Annual Charity Invitational Tournament as well as to complete an important extension of this charity work by officially unveiling the Room donated in his honour at the Cancer Society of the Bahamas ' Cancer Caring Centre in Centreville.

For the past several years, Mr. Knowles has donated a portion of the funds from his Tournaments to the Cancer Society of the Bahamas and these were earmarked to build and furnish one of the rooms at the new Centre. The Mark Knowles Room will be used primarily by teenagers with Cancer.

President of the Cancer Society of the Bahamas, Terry Fountain and Treasurer, Susan Roberts, thanked Mr. Knowles sincerely for his dedicated commitment to the Society and assured him that the Room, which is one of ten built for the use of Family Island Cancer patients needing accommodation while in Nassau for cancer treatment, will be put to very good use.

“It is with the help of caring and sharing individuals like Mark Knowles that the Cancer Caring Centre will indeed be ‘a home away from home' for so many patients”, stated Mrs. Roberts. “To date we have housed many individuals and this magnificent facility has contributed to making their stay in Nassau so much more comfortable.”

Mr. Knowles stated that he made the commitment years ago along with his mother, Vicky Knowles, to put the funds raised from his annual tournament to positive use by helping young people in the community and giving back to the Bahamas . “This Centre is absolutely wonderful, and I am very pleased that the Mark Knowles Room, located in such serene and beautiful surroundings, is now officially opened.” Mr. Knowles was also proud to present the first donation from his recent Tournament to the Cancer Society of the Bahamas following the unveiling.
