BAHAMIAN QUILTERS CONTRIBUTE TO THE CANCER CARING CENTRE

A selection of wall hangings, bed and cot covers, and two special "signature" quilts already bearing some hand written names of male and female residents of The Bahamas who are proud to proclaim themselves cancer survivors were donated to the Bahamas Cancer Society's new Caring Centre by representatives of Bahamian Quilting groups in May 2004

This collection resulted not only from the tremendous collaborative effort and undeniable artistic talents of all the national quilting community, but also from their enthusiasm to make this a groundbreaking community project. Their energy generated financial, material and emotional sponsors, gifts of time, loans of equipment, hearth and home, and the recruiting of "absolute beginners" who, after learning the basics, saw their efforts incorporated in a "professionally finished" product.

Despite the assistance, the time line, a mere four plus months from initial creative vision to completion of thirty-eight quilts, is enough to take the breath away; viewing the completed pieces simply awe inspiring. The true joy is that these pieces are not destined for exhibition only, but for comfort and sharing, and where best to give a sample of the intricate stitching and variety of design but on this page!
