The Cancer Society of the Bahamas' Support Group held a successful Survivors' Day Seminar on Cancer entitled "It's A New Day" on Saturday, October 28 from 10 am - 4pm at Headquarters.
This free Seminar was well attended by the public and provided information to nurture the mind, body and soul.
Talks dealt with the New Trends in Breast and Colon Cancer Care from Oncologist, Dr Theodore Turnquest, Dr Homer Bloomfield spoke on the Human Papilloma Virus and its relation to Cervical Cancer. Dr Gregory Neil spoke about Plastic Surgery and Dr Patti Symonette gave an indepth insight into Nutrition and Cancer. Spiritually, Dr Wayne Thompson examined Sexuality issues connected to Cancer, Minister Wendy Cash preached on the question "Why me Lord?" Nurse Beverley Williams from the Oncology Unit, PMH spoke about the important of Support during cancer. Yoga instructor Jackie Breyfogle explained the positive benefits of Yoga which she imparts to the weekly Support Group Meetings, whilst survivor Gia Kester related the importance of "looking good to feel good". 'Golden Girl' 85 year old, 34 year Survivor Mrs Bosfield told her inspiring story!
The audience was also treated to a delicious lunch and left with a pink bag full of surprises, compliments of Lowe's Wholesale. Several persons were also door prize winners - so a great time was really had by all!
The Cancer Society of the Bahamas' Support Group meets every Wednesday at Cancer Headquarters from 5.30 - 7.00 pm. If you are a cancer survivor, family member of friend, you are cordially invited to attend!
